Gas savings: Sh8 trillion is not ‘that bad’…
Since Tanzania started to use natural gas in industrial production and energy generation about 13 years ago, it has saved up to Sh23.14 trillion! Within the last 3 years alone, savings of up to Sh8 trillion were recorded due to a shift in dependence on heavy furnace oil, petrol, diesel, jet fuel and other fuels which are still heavily used in other African countries. UNIMAID defies insurgency, set to continue gas, oil exploration
Despite the recent incidences of abduction of lecturers and ongoing insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin of Borno and Yobe states, the authorities of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), during a visit to the Group Managing Director of NNPC, have announced a decision to continue gas and oil exploration in the area. Gas users prone to suffer from political dispute
Diplomatic tensions between the UK and Russia have led the UK Prime Minister Theresa May to seek alternative sources of gas asides Russia. UK Energy minister, Alexander Novak has however pointed out that consumers will be the major recipients of the potential damage a scarcity of gas will cause. “Should any company or country opt for another supplier, I don’t think that condition will be that preferential and beneficial for them” Novak said. China: Gas as fuel for heating to be the most valuable usage for natural gas
The newly appointed minister of Ecological Environment in China, Li Ganjie, has reiterated the commitment of the Chinese government to achieve its goals of switching from heavy industrial usage of coal to gas, and shifting commodities transportation from using trucks to using railroads. “Using gas a s a fuel for heating would be the most valuable usage for natural gas” Li said. He also confirmed that natural gas supplies will continue to be tight in the future as the country continues to ensure a transition from consumer usage from coal to gas.
